Description
Earth Rod (ER3)
The earth rod is made of light galvanised angle steel as this doubles the contact with the earth. It is long enough to touch wet subsoil in all but the driest weather. It is galvanised because rust is the enemy for good earthing.
It should be driven deeply in so the energiser hanging from its hook is almost toughing the ground.
If power is down on the fence it is often because the earth around the rod has dried out. 5-10 buckets of water poured over it will usually cure the problem.
