Why FIELDGUARD electric horse tape?

Fieldguard Fencing

Fieldguard – originators of wide tape electric fencing

Fieldguard electric fencing tape is the original tape, developed by Fieldguard with our French partners – both being horse breeders – in 1984. The electric tape is designed to be safe, durable, giving owners peace of mind that their fence is effective and long lasting.

The tape has a wide weave that allows the wind to blow through, ensuring that it remains stationery under all adverse weather conditions. There are two nylon filaments to reduce stretching under constant wind.

By its nature, electric fence tape has high electrical resistance and requires large power units. To mitigate this Fieldguard 40mm electric fence tape is made with 10 x 0.4mm stainless steel filaments, which permit the use of less powerful energisers.

Animals touch the edge, so the filaments of the 40mm tape (excluding white) are bunched along each leading edge, and this has a second advantage for if a filament breaks there is no loss of power transmission.

Creatures of flight (horses, deer, zebra), but horses in particular, have difficulty seeing fencing less than 40mm wide. Therefore we do not sell wire, string, rope, netting or thin tapes.

Similarly horses see white less easily than brown or green. A tape fence should be two strands of 40mm electric fencing tape.

Fieldguard tape has a designed life span in excess of 25 years.

Few tapes are as robust and exhaustively tested as Fieldguard, and none use totally purpose-designed fittings.

The Fieldguard system is designed and manufactured in France. To ensure a consistently high-quality product, La Sangliere/Fieldguard are the only retailers worldwide to weave our own tapes as well as design and manufacture the fittings. Since 1984 they’ve outsold all other wide horse tapes combined in Europe and since 1997 has been the top-selling tape in the USA and Australia.

The fence is designed by people who use it themselves and who wish to keep their livestock reliably safe and uninjured at minimal cost.

Today everyone gets exactly what they pay for and electric fencing is no exception. It is tempting to opt for cheaper systems and particularly to choose cheaper tapes. These may well work until the one occasion when an expensive accident happens, but by then it is too late.
